Feedlot Performance

  • ï‚·Angus have consistent, high performance in feedlot environments

  • ï‚·Post weaning growth rate = 2.52 lbs/day

  • ï‚·Average feed conversion = 7.0 kg (of feed)/kg (gain)

  • Slightly above the industry average of 6.5 kg (of feed)/kg (of gain)

  • ï‚· Excellent dressing percentage of 59.4%

 

Health Advantages

  • ï‚· Angus are low maintenance, and adaptable cattle, that perform well in harsh climates

  • ï‚· Angus cattle are naturally polled, which avoids decreased performance and health issues related to traditional dehorning procedures

  • ï‚· The breeds dark-pigmented skin absorbs sunlight which has many advantages including preventing cancer eye, and avoiding both sun burning and snow burning, commonly associated with light skinned cattle

Charolais

 

Marketing Advantages

  • ï‚·Charolais cattle are praised for high yield and have well-muscled, fine textured and lean carcasses

  • ï‚· Charolais have intramuscular fat that contributes to their excellent meat quality

  • ï‚· Charolais generally have excellent conformation

  • ï‚· Charolais have one of the highest percentages of salable cuts in particular from their heavily muscled loins and haunches

  • ï‚· Charolais cattle demonstrate excellent growth with very efficient feedlot gains

  • ï‚· Post weaning growth rate = 2.92 lbs/day

  • ï‚· Average feed conversion = 6.0 (kg of feed)/kg (gain)
